WILMINGTON TOWNSHIP \u2014 The body of a Crest Hill woman who had been missing for more than a week was found in a conservation area Tuesday morning. Bloomington police have arrested Misook Wang, 45, in connection with the slaying of Wenlan Tyda, 70.<\/p>\n
Crest Hill Police Chief Dwayne Wilkerson said Tyda worked as a Chinese translator throughout the state, mostly for attorneys. \u201cOn Sept. 4, she got a call to pick up someone in Bloomington and take them to Chinatown in Chicago the next day, which her husband Larry said was not unusual,\u201d Wilkerson said.<\/p>\n
Tyda left for Bloomington around 3:30 a.m. the next morning in her silver Toyota Rav4 and told her husband she\u2019d be home around noon. \u201cAfter she was a few hours overdue, he tried to call her cell phone but got no answer. Around 8 p.m. he reported her as missing to police,\u201d Wilkerson said. Tyda had relatives living Bloomington and detectives obtained cell phone records the next day to see if her phone was used there.<\/p>\n
On Sept. 7, Crest Hill detectives contacted Bloomington police about Tyda\u2019s disappearance.<\/p>\n
\u201cDuring our investigation, we learned Tyda and her daughter-in-law, Misook Wang, have been arguing recently over Wang\u2019s pending divorce from Tyda\u2019s son,\u201d Wilkerson said.<\/p>\n
When Bloomington police questioned Wang early Tuesday, she allegedly told them she\u2019d killed Tyda and buried her body in the Des Plaines Fish and Wildlife Area state park.<\/p>\n
Around 6 a.m. officers found a shallow grave near New River Road.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe woman has been dead for several days, but the remains were tentatively identified as Tyda,\u201d Will County Coroner Patrick K. O\u2019Neil said.<\/p>\n
An autopsy performed Tuesday afternoon showed she was strangled.<\/p>\n
Wang was awaiting formal charges in the McLean County jail on Tuesday.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
